<p>Mr Brownson is recognised nationally and internationally for his expertise in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. He is regularly invited to lecture and carry out live surgical demonstrations at courses across Europe. He is the Upper Limb Surgeon to Liverpool Football Club and in addition treats players from 3 other Premiership Football Clubs. He is regularly asked to provide articles for the National Press.</p>
<p>He studied at Liverpool University and qualified in 1986 (MB ChB). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1991 (FRCS Ed), after which he undertook a period of orthopaedic research at Nottingham University. This research involved impact biomechanics as applied to aircraft passenger safety. It culminated in the submission of his doctoral thesis and the award of an DM (the medical equivalent of a PhD). In addition, the research resulted in him being awarded an Honorarium in the Syme Professorship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1993 and the crash brace position proposed, was subsequently adopted by the Civil Aviation Authority, for use on passenger aircraft.</p>
<p>Mr Brownson continued his orthopaedic training in Nottingham, during which time he acquired extensive experience in trauma surgery working at the Queens Medical Centre. He obtained the specialist fellowship in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in 1996 (FRCS Orth). He completed his training with his appointment as the Shoulder Fellow in the Nottingham Shoulder and Elbow Unit where he acquired sub specialist skills in all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery.</p>
<p>In 1998 Mr Brownson was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Liverpool since when he has been instrumental in helping to establish the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit as a centre of excellence.</p>
<p>On a personal level, he has achieved both a national and international reputation as being at the forefront of arthroscopic (keyhole) surgical techniques. In recognition of this, he was awarded the Travelling Fellowship of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society in 2002. He continues to be actively involved in upper limb research and he has published a number of articles on upper limb related topics. He is an editorial reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He is the Course Director of the Liverpool Advanced Shoulder Arthroscopy Course which is one of the largest courses of its type outside of the United States and he is the Course Co-Director of the AO Liverpool Shoulder and Elbow Trauma.</p>
<p>Mr Brownson is married with two children. He enjoys sailing, cycling and skiing.</p>

<p>Mr Brown is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust specialising in surgery to the wrist and hand, as well as to trauma to the upper limb.</p>
<p>He has a particular interest in the management of patients with wrist trauma and the complications arising from wrist trauma. He also has an interest in treating arthritis of the wrist and hand, particularly rheumatoid arthritis and performs many small joint and wrist replacements. In addition, he has extensive experience in dealing with all aspect of hand surgery, including carpal tunnel, trigger fingers, <a href="http://dupuytrens-society.org.uk/">Dupuytren&#8217;s disease</a> and arthroscopic surgery.<br />
Mr Brown leads a strong multi-disciplinary team in all the hospitals where he practices and works closely with Hand Therapists, Specialist Nurses, Radiologists, Neurophysiologists and Pathologists.</p>
<p>As well as being a founding partner of the Bone &amp; Joint Centre, located at Spire Liverpool Hospital, Mr Brown works in the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit at The Royal Liverpool &amp; Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he is also the Clinical Lead for Trauma and an Associate Clinical Director of the Trauma &amp; Orthopaedic Department.</p>
<p>Mr Brown is The Specialist Hand Tutor for The Royal College of Surgeons and The British Society for Surgery to the Hand. He is on the Education Faculty of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and is the Educational Lead for Mersey Deanery&#8217;s School of Surgery. He is also the Regional Programme Director for Core Orthopaedic Training. He holds a Master&#8217;s Degree in Clinical Education, awarded with distinction and also holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Clinical Practice, also awarded with distinction.</p>
<p>Mr Brown has a significant research interest and has published many papers in major peer reviewed journals in the fields of hand surgery, trauma and medical education. He has set up and run several randomized trials and participates in the evaluation of new and innovative trauma implants. He has also presented this work at major international orthopaedic conferences, where the work has been awarded prizes and commendations. He has co-edited 2 books and has written several book chapters. He regularly acts as a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery.</p>
<p>Mr Brown regularly is invited to teach, both nationally and internationally, on various aspects of wrist and hand surgery, most particularly the management of distal radius fractures. He has given invited lectures to The British Hand Society, The British Orthopaedic Society, The International Orthopaedic Congress and The International Federation of Societies for Surgery to The Hand.</p>
<p>Mr Brown, graduated from The University of Manchester in 1992, and underwent post-graduate training in Manchester and Merseyside, He subsequently undertook a fellowship in Hand Surgery with the Plastic Surgical Hand Unit at Whiston Hospital before being appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2003. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, a member of The British Orthopaedic Association, The British Society for Surgery to the Hand and The British Elbow and Shoulder Society.</p>
<p>Mr Brown is married with 2 young daughters; he enjoys cooking and fine wine. When not working he enjoys skiing, travelling and has a keen interest in photography</p>

<p>Mr Davidson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust where he specialises in treating patients with arthritic hips and knees. He has a special interest in treating complex primary and revision knee replacements. He also specialises in joint replacements for the younger patients and performs more than 200 joint replacements a year in both the NHS and private sector.</p>
<p>Mr Davidson studied for his medical degree in Glasgow and subsequently completed his training in Edinburgh, Birmingham and Liverpool. He undertook a Fellowship in Sydney Australia and had the opportunity to be a visiting Fellow in several joint replacement units in Australia, USA and Europe. He completed his training at Wrightington Hospital in the Arthroplasty Unit (Hip and Knee replacement).</p>
<p>He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Liverpool in 2001 and was invited to take up his current additional role of Clinical Director in 2005.<br />
Mr Davidson is the founder of, and Chairman of the Bone and Joint Centre.</p>
<p>Mr Davidson is frequently invited to talk about his work both nationally and internationally on joint replacement surgery; minimally invasive surgery; management of the younger patient; and new materials and joint replacement techniques.</p>
<p>He was a founder of the Liverpool Bone and Joint Infection Group and has been invited to speak internationally on the management of infected joint replacements. This has resulted in writing a book chapter on the surgical treatment of infected joint replacement with a specialised hydro scalpel tool.</p>

<p>Mr Andrew Taylor is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool &amp; Broadgreen University Hospitals, where he specialises in knee surgery and in particular arthroscopic sports injuries.</p>
<p>He studied for his medical degree at St Mary&#8217;s Hospital medical school London where he gained his primary medical qualification and his orthopaedic training centered on the North West Thames Surgical rotation. He completed his training by undertaking a fellowship in arthroscopic/sports medicine surgery in Perth Western Australia between 2001 and 2002. He became a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in May 2002.</p>
<p>Mr Taylor has acquired a national reputation as an arthroscopic knee surgeon. He is regularly invited to lecture on knee and sports injury courses.<br />
In his spare time Mr Taylor is a keen sports enthusiast with a particular interest in rugby, golf and skiing. He represented England in the Under 18s rugby team as a flanker in 1985 and the Lancashire under 18s county tennis championship (doubles) in that same year. He managed to maintain his interest in rugby as a club doctor at Richmond Rugby Club in the late 90s.</p>

<p>Mr Alasdair Santini is a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at The Royal Liverpool University and Broadgreen Hospitals where he specialises in knee replacements, revision knee replacements, partial knee replacements, hip replacements and knee arthroscopy.</p>
<p>Mr Santini studied at the University of Sheffield where he gained his primary medical qualification (MB ChB). Following his basic surgical training in Sheffield he was awarded his surgical fellowships from the Royal Colleges in both Glasgow and England (FRCSGlasg &amp; FRCSEng). His higher surgical training was gained in the North West region. Subsequently he achieved the specialist fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Trauma &amp; Orth) and then won a Royal College travelling fellowship to St Louis, USA.</p>
<p>Mr Santini became a consultant at the Royal Liverpool &amp; Broadgreen University Hospital in 2005 where he specialises in primary and revision knee replacement, knee arthroscopy and hip replacement.</p>
<p>He is the orthopaedic clinical lead in infection control and prevention, having previously had a similar role in clinical audit. He is the lead clinician for the lower limb sub-directorate.</p>
<p>Mr Santini was instrumental in re-designing the then Core Skills Course in Orthopaedics at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He chairs the organising committee and wrote and edited the accompanying book and DVD. Now under the name Specialist Skills in Orthopaedics, the course is run in five centres across the UK and this year, Mr Santini ran the first international course in Dubai. A similar course is planned for India in 2011.</p>
<p>He has an on-going research interest, having won over £30,000 in grants to run clinical trials in knee surgery. The results of these have been presented both nationally and internationally. He also lectures both nationally and internationally on knee surgery.</p>
<p>In 2008, he founded the Grosvenor Orthopaedic Club to promote education and research for hip and knee surgeons in Cheshire and Merseyside. The club meets four times a year and have been joined by a variety of international guest speakers.</p>
<p>Mr Santini was a keen fencer, captaining the University team but more recently enjoys skiing, scuba diving, hill climbing and following Scotland&#8217;s rugby internationals as a lifetime seat holder at Murrayfield.</p>

<p>Mr Walker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a particular interest in conditions of the foot and ankle. This includes arthroscopic and open surgery, together with Ilizarov techniques for deformity correction. He specialises in difficult conditions and often provides second opinions and surgery for complex problems.</p>
<p>He studied at the University of Liverpool and qualified in 1981. Following this he undertook his surgical training in London and was awarded Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England in 1986 and 1987. He was appointed to a research fellowship in Liverpool and also a surgical fellowship at Wrightington Hospital. He achieved his Intercollegiate Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1993. Prior to taking up his Consultant post he visited foot and ankle centres in the USA at Oakland, Seattle and Baltimore.</p>
<p>He was appointed to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 1994 and set up the hospital&#8217;s foot and ankle service. He is Associate Clinical Director of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate and is Chairman of the hospital&#8217;s Techniques and Medical Devices Group.</p>
<p>He has achieved wide recognition in the world of foot and ankle surgery and regularly lectures at national and international meetings. He is Course Director of the Liverpool Forefoot Course.</p>
<p>He was President of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society from 2007-8 representing the Society on national and international issues. He was appointed Director of the Society in 2009.</p>
<p>He has provided opinion for radio and newspaper articles and provided commentary on the effects of high heels on the foot in Channel Fours &#8220;Embarrassing Bodies&#8221;</p>
<p>Chris is married with three sons. He coaches one of his son&#8217;s rugby team and enjoys sailing.</p>

<p>Mr Viju K. Peter is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and and Broadgreen University Hospitals. He specialises in Hip and Knee replacements, Knee and Hip arthroscopy and Revision Hip surgery.</p>
<p>He completed his Specialist Registrar training in the Mersey Region and did further fellowship training at Wrightington and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital at Birmingham in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, before joining as a consultant in February 2008.His area of interest is hip and knee problems in adults. He has quite extensive experience in revision hip surgery and in dealing with problems related to failing metal on metal total hip replacements. He is one of the few people in the region with experience in Hip Arthroscopy.</p>
<p>He is responsible for all research conducted by the Hip unit and his areas of interest are ceramics, high performance bearing surfaces, issues related to metal on metal hip replacements, and long term outcomes of joint replacements. He has presented and published several papers related to these both nationally and internationally.</p>

Rotation. During his Specialist Registrar training he gained a diploma in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Technology<br />
(Dundee University, passed with Merit). After passing the FRCS (Tr &amp; Orth) exam in 2006, and becoming a Fellow of The<br />
Royal College of Surgeons of England, he specialised in Upper Limb Surgery by undertaking 3 fellowship posts. The<br />
Fellowship posts in Wrightington Hospital and The University of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (Preston and Chorley)<br />
were completed prior to the completion of his training and award of Certificate of Completion of Training leading to<br />
entrance to General Medical Council’s Specialist Register.</p>
<p>He delayed taking up a consultant post by undertaking Peter Brownson’s fellowship within The Liverpool Upper Limb Unit<br />
and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals<br />
NHS Trust in July 2009, taking up post as a Specialist Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon within the Liverpool Upper limb Unit.</p>

He specialises in both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow with strong emphasis on<br />
shoulder and elbow trauma. He has been working with the team at Spire Liverpool since September 2009. Mr Smith<br />
maintains active research interests looking into a variety of shoulder and elbow conditions having published in peer<br />
reviewed journals. He is the course director for a national clinical examination course and teaches/lectures at a number<br />
of other national and international courses.

<div class="announcement">Mr Guisasola is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital Trust specialising in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery He has a particular interest in keyhole surgery for shoulder and elbow conditions and reconstructive and replacement surgery of the shoulder and the elbow.Mr Guisasola obtained his medical degree from Navarra University in Spain. His orthopaedic postgraduate training was then undertaken inMadrid(Spain). Mr Guisasola subsequently took up  consultants post in San Sebastianwhere he practised from 1992 to 2002. Mr Guisasola then moved to Blackpool in 2002 and practiced there as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.</p>
