Peter Brownson, Bone and Joint Centre partner and leading expert in conditions of the shoulder and elbow, recently attended a sports medicine conference along with such well regarded speakers as Joe de Beer from Capetown, South Africa. Mr Brownson presented a lecture on the examination of the shoulder and rotator cuff problems in the athlete. There were also key representatives from many football and rugby clubs, including the Football Association, in attendance. All keen to hear from Mr Brownson on his diagnostic advances in the subject.
There was a further international presence from Mr Brownson when he attended an Artthrex sponsored course in Munich where again he lectured on rotator cuff problems as part of a strong UK faculty. At the end of October, Mr John S. Davidson, consultant hip and knee surgeon and founder of the Bone and Joint Centre, was invited to attend an international advisory board for revision knee replacements. The event was hosted by DuPuys in Madrid and reinforced the important role of the BJC in influencing orthopaedic surgical advancement.
Mr Davidson was also a key participant in the 5th International AKU (Alkaptonuria) workshop earlier this month where he sat on the surgical panel. Mr Davidson has operated on more AKU cases that any other surgeon in the UK and is considered to be an opinion leader in the subject. Liverpool is soon to become the designated centre for AKU in the country and this is in no small part down to the clinical excellence of the BJC’s founder.
