He lives on the Wirral and is married with 2 children. He was raised and educated in Liverpool and attended Merchant Taylors School in Crosby before studying at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School where he gained his primary medical qualification. This was followed by a rotation post as St. Mary's Senior House Officer and rotation as North West Thames Registrar. He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has passed the intercollegiate exam in Orthopaedics and Trauma, FRCS (tr & orth) as well as being qualified in intercalated neoplasia and inflammation.
Mr Taylor combined his career with travel when he undertook a fellowship in arthroscopic/sports medicine in Perth, Western Australia between 2001 and 2002. He also holds a number of professional memberships to the British Medical Association, Medical Defence Union, British Orthopaedic Association and the British Association for Surgery of the Knee. He is a member of the 2020 Group which is a national group of specialist knee as well as being a Faculty Member for National/European specialist knee courses. In his spare time Mr Taylor is a keen sports enthusiast with a particular interest in rugby, golf and skiing. He represented England in the Under 18s rugby team as a flanker in 1985 and the Lancashire Under 18s county tennis championship (doubles) in that same year. He managed to maintain his interest in rugby as a club doctor at Richmond Rugby Club in the late 90s although now he mainly enjoys the sport as a spectator along with his other interests of food, wine and real ale. Prior to becoming a father he also enjoyed extensive travel particularly across Africa.
