He was educated at Gillsland Park Preparatory School and The Edinburgh Academy and then at The University of Sheffield where he gained his primary medical qualification. He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He passed the intercollegiate exam in Orthopaedics and Trauma (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2002 and gained entry to thespecialist register in orthopaedics in February 2004. His higher training inorthopaedics was on the Liverpool Orthopaedic rotation and involved a year at Wrightington Hospital and a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow sponsored travelling fellowship to visit Dr Leo Whiteside in St Louis, USA. He is a member of the British Medical Association, British Orthopaedic Association and British Association for Surgery of the Knee. He is also a member of Orthopaedic InfectionControl Group for Royal Liverpool University, Broadgreen and Aintree Hospitals.He has been a previous organiser for clinical demonstrations for the visitingRussian Ilizarov professorial team to Liverpool and an examiner for OSCEsection of the MCh(Orth) exam at the University of Liverpool. Mr Santini is a keen fencer, having been captain of both school and university teams. He currently keeps fit by running and participated in the Great South Run in 2003. He enjoys scuba diving and has the PADI advanced open water diver qualification.He enjoys hill-climbing especially Munro-Bagging and is a lifetime ticketholder of seats at Murrayfield so he can follow Scotlands rugby internationals.
